What Does Bali Blue Moon Coffee Taste Like?

The flavor profile of our Bali Blue Moon Coffee includes a combination of walnuts and semi-sweet chocolate. The crisp black cherry finish contains a detectable toffee aroma to balance the full body and low-to-medium acidity. Drinking a cup of Bali Blue Moon coffee tastes like waking up in a cabana by the ocean, strolling through the forest in the morning, and smelling the fragrant fruits and complex cacao.

This layered yet accessible cup of coffee is well-paired with neutral-palate snacks like bagels with cream cheese or as a complement to sweet treats like Chocolate Muffins at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf®.

What Gives Bali Blue Moon Coffee Its Flavor?

The coffee trees in this region of Bali grow next to tangerines and oranges, giving the bean a distinct, nuanced flavor. When ripe, farmers sort the coffee cherries by hand. The coffee picked must contain at least 95% red fruit to be accepted for processing. The whole cherries are submerged in water and put through a de-pulper before drying and fermenting on large concrete patios or raised beds for two to four weeks. When ready for hulling, the dried cherries take on a rich, dark purple hue.

Bali farmers are not permitted to use pesticides on their crops. All fertilizers used on the island of Bali are 100% organic to ensure your Bali Blue Moon coffee doesn’t contain hazardous chemicals and is environmentally-friendly.

Bali Blue Moon Coffee Origins

Bali Blue Moon coffee makes its way to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® from the Kintamani Highlands in North Bali, an island that’s part of Indonesia. The coffee is grown under shade trees at an altitude between 3200-3900 feet. Harvesting occurs between May and October when only the ripest fruit is picked.

Arabica coffee farmers in the Kintamani Highlands organize into traditional groups called Subak Abian. The groups act as rural cooperatives that sell coffee in concert with local export groups. The collectives are founded on the Hindu philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which prioritizes the relationship of human beings to God, to other humans, and the environment as the “three causes of happiness.” For our part, we are happy to work alongside this cooperative to support local farmers and provide the best cup of coffee to our customers.
